SARAH FINGER
WOODBLOCK ARTIST
Skyline Printworks is the block printing studio of Bellingham artist Sarah Finger. Sarah was born and raised in Whatcom County, and her artwork is intrinsically tied to a deep love and appreciation for her home. Sarah gathers her inspiration while out adventuring on the landscape, and then shares that wonderment through her hand-carved block prints.
THE PROCESS
Sarah’s design began as a sheet of birch plywood. Her process is intricate and precise every step of the way, from cutting the wood with a scroll saw to hand-carving the landscape details of mountains, trees, and meadows. Once the carving is done, she rolls ink onto the block with her signature color gradient “rainbow roll” technique that mixes multiple colors in a seamless blend highlighting the magical skies and patterns of the North Cascades.
